Working on this project, I have sketched many times and changed my ideas a lot. I got inspired by a lot of things that helped me with the final results.
Experimenting with patterns:
I tried different methods and ways to make patterns and I also tried using Taprats that I mentioned in my previous post. Working with the patterns for the background was a little tricky because it sometimes felt too plain and modern for my design period. That’s why I tried scanning old books and papers to use with my patterns.
Inspirations for the King, Jack, fashion and design period in general:
I gathered photos from Wikipedia that represent Arabs and theirs kings and knights.
Development of the Illustration of the Queen:
after finishing this illustration, I realized it wasn’t suitable for my design period because it looked too young and new, so I tried looking for inspirations and started working on another one.
And finally, the development of the card design:
It was hard for me to decide on the background design. It was better to choose a light color because navy blue was too dark for my color palette and it did not look good with the red letters and diamonds. I think the Green color suited my illustrations and Design period better.
